Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation program is a 60-credit hour program designed for the student who seeks professional counseling careers in rehabilitation settings including state, federal, and private rehabilitation agencies.  The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitatinprogram is designed to prepare culturally competent counselors that specialize in working with individuals with physical, mental, developmental, psychological, and neurological disabilities and/or illnesses.  Students are prepared with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences to empower individuals with disabilities through the counseling process.  Students are further preparedwith diverse skills to provide effective rehabilitation counseling services within a cultural context.

 

Program Objectives

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation program has the following objectives:

  • Training specialized professional personnel in rehabilitation counseling who are able to providehigh quality rehabilitation counseling and independent living services to individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with significant disabilities.
  • To prepare students with the counseling skills to address the multi-dimensional needs of individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • To prepare students for national certification, state licensure, and for rehabilitation and human services personnel to upgrade skills.
  • To prepare students to engage in professional issues in rehabilitation counseling through professional associations, publications, and professional development.
  • To prepare counselors to work in varied rehabilitation settings prepared to address professional issues, and the needs of individuals with disabilities all consistent with the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation program’s mission and objectives.

 

Admission Requirements

Students must submit the following:

  • Graduate admissions application
  • Official transcripts (undergraduate and/or graduate) from an accredited university
  • Three professional references on letterhead or stationery
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Resume

Special Requirements

As a part of the 60-credit hours Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation program, each student will be required to select two (2) electives from a listing of approved electives.
