The Honors Program

Honors

The Honors Program prepares the university’s high ability students for graduate or professional study and for entry into the workforce.  The Program includes the Institute for Standardized Testing.

Vision

The Honors Program seeks to become a first-rate, scholastic and professional development enterprise within the University System of Maryland, a bridge for students to world-class graduate schools and professional programs and a segue into entry-level positions.

Mission

The Honors Program fosters an enduring spirit of inquiry, discovery, leadership, and civic engagement in a setting where outstanding students and dedicated faculty, together, pursue common intellectual agendas and engage their communities in meaningful ways. The Program offers an enriched and challenging course of study and requires its academically motivated student population to commit to rigorous preparation for entry into graduate or professional school or into their fields of interest.

The Honors Program

Each year, The Honors Program seeks students who have an expressed interest in preparation for study on the graduate level or for immediate entry into their careers.   Students are prepared for master’s, doctoral, or professional degree study through accelerated coursework, regularly scheduled workshops about the graduate-school experience, graduate school application process, graduate admissions test preparation, character and leadership development, community service experiences, and cultural enrichment activities.  Weekly workshops also address topics pertaining to students’ development as professionals to include resume writing and interviewing skills, networking, internships, and professional dress, and personal branding.

Students are admitted into University Honors as either four-year students or as upper-division, two-year students. Scholarships that provide the equivalent of in-state tuition and fees are available to any Valedictorian and Salutatorian who enters Coppin with an Associate’s degree from an accredited institution.
