PSYC 351 - Counseling Techniques 4 Credit(s) A review of the assumptions and facts fundamental to counseling and interview processes. The various tools and techniques of counseling, counseling resources, and the relationship of counseling to the total guidance process are reviewed. This course will assist the student in acquiring the skills, competencies and knowledge necessary to practice counseling in job development, placement, and retention. Specific counseling approaches and techniques that have been found to be effective are highlighted. This course also focuses on ethical standards and legal aspects of counseling and the role that values play in the delivery of care. Current trends in the counseling field, such as dealing with trauma, the challenge of managed care, and the promotion of wellness are also explored.
