EDUC 300 - Foundations of Reading 3 Credit(s) Cross-listed as: REED 504 This course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to understand the processes and acquisition of reading. Students explore the history and foundations of reading instruction; the theoretical bases for approaches, techniques, and processes utilized in teaching reading. Phonics, as one of the interrelated cueing systems, is explored. The role of language and cognitive development in the acquisition of reading is examined. A 24 - hour practicum experience is required. Lecture
