THEA 100 - Introduction to Theatre

3 Credit(s)
The Introduction to Theatre 100 course is an exploration of theatre through the acting, directing, designing, writing, managing, and viewing perspectives. THEA 100 is a GER course in the arts. This course will support, inform, provoke, and shape the academic framework of the University’s first learning outcome-competency in oral and written communication! This competency is the most important skill the student will use to find their “voice” as significant communicators and leaders in the 21 st century. This course will help to anchor the GER (General Education Requirement) for arts to increase reading proficiency, enhance fluency of language, persuasive speech, verbal/nonverbal expression, and overall comprehension skills. Students make gains in self-concept, motivation, and higher levels of empathy and tolerance when they study theatre. As a survey class, topics include historical background, literary works, technical aspects, and performance techniques. All these topics relate to social media, cinema, and television. Students become career ready candidates for the job market armed with leadership skills, task-oriented goals, problem solving, and the will to be flexible and adapt when necessary. Lastly, the student learns the significance of collaboration and working together-needed to navigate the world of work.
