The ECED/HD Program prepares culturally aware early learning professionals with skills to manage day to day operations, develop and maintain partnerships with family and community members in order to support child development, plan lessons to develop foundational academic knowledge, as well as collect and use data to support teaching and learning. Program curricula reflects theory and practice founded in research based, best practices in culture and cognition with a focus on minority and urban learners. The Department of Teaching and Learning is committed to preparing early learning professionals who are certified in the state of Maryland and qualified to teach and serve in professional positions that address the needs of infants, toddlers and young children while addressing a broad range of learning needs for early learners. The ECED/HD Program will offer two tracks -teacher or administrator.

Admissions Procedures
Students who are interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in the early childhood education human development program must meet the following requirements in order to declare a major:
- Must have a GPA of 2.75 or better;
- Must have completed at least 32 credits;
- Must have completed the English and Math requirements (ENGL 101 & ENGL 102 ; MATH 103 );
- Must submit a Declaration of Major Form;
- Must complete the Phase I Professional Portfolio; and
- Must complete an Entrance into Teacher Education Interview.
