The undergraduate program in elementary education in the School of Education is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The primary objective of the program in Elementary Education is to prepare highly qualified teachers to teach in grades one through six, providing prospective teachers with the experiences needed to acquaint them with the curricula, organization, objectives, procedures, and instructional resources of the elementary school. Prospective teachers are also provided with classroom experiences dealing with direct analysis of teaching and learning, the selection, use, organization, and presentation of subject matter, techniques for the evaluation of results of teaching and learning, and the practical application of theories and principles of learning.
